ACRES Hedgerow And Tree Planting Extended Until March 2025

Mar 22, 2024 | Green Architecture

In response to current market constraints and limited supplies of suitable hedgerow and tree plants, the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) have extended the deadline to plant hedgerows and trees under the Agri-Climate Rural Environment Scheme (ACRES) until March 31st, 2025. ACRES aims to tackle the biodiversity decline while providing income supports to a target of 50,000 farm families across Ireland. The scheme is implemented in two phases, with this particular extension specifically under Tranche 1 of ACRES.

These adjustments have been made to the requirements for several actions, including planting hedgerows, traditional orchards, trees in riparian buffer zones, tree belts for ammonia capture, and tree planting.

Participants facing challenges in sourcing adequate quantities of these plants to fulfil their ACRES Tranche 1 commitments are granted an extension until March 31, 2025, to establish these features as per the specified guidelines. It is important to note that this extension solely pertains to ACRES Tranche 1 specifications. All of the commitments must be fulfilled by this deadline.

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine advises participants to utilise this extension and to plan effectively for meeting their planting requirements ahead of the next dormant season.
