CAP Network Ireland extends warm congratulations to the new Ministers and Ministers of State upon their recent appointment. We look forward to continue working alongside the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine to nurture connections, spark innovation, and present funding opportunities within Ireland’s CAP Strategic Plan (CSP) 2023-2027. We also look forward to working with the Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht as the LEADER programme continues to gain momentum.
Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine
Martin Heydon, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine has been a Fine Gael TD for the Kildare South constituency since 2011. He previously served as Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine from 2020 to 2025. Minister Heydon was a farmer before entering political life and still lives there with his young family.
Michael Healy-Rae, Minister of State with responsibility for Forestry, Farm Safety and Horticulture is an Irish independent TD for the Kerry constituency since 2016, and from 2011 to 2016 for the Kerry South constituency. He served as Chair of the Committee on European Union Affairs from 2016 to 2020.
Noel Grealish, Minister of State with responsibility for Food Promotion, New Markets, Research and Development, has been an Irish independent TD for the Galway West constituency since 2002.
Department of Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht
Dara Calleary, Minister for Rural and Community Development and the Gaeltacht has been a TD for the Mayo constituency since 2007. He previously served as Minister of State for Trade Promotion, Digital and Company Regulation from 2022 to 2025, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine from July to August 2020, Deputy leader of Fianna Fáil from 2018 to 2020 and Minister of State for Labour Affairs from 2009 to 2011.
Minister Calleary will have responsibility for the delivery of LEADER as it supports private enterprises and community groups who improve the quality of life and economic activity in rural areas. It is delivered by a network of Local Action Groups (LAGs) selected to implement Local Development Strategies for their respective geographical areas.
Jerry Buttimer, Minister of State at the Department of Rural and Community Development, with special responsibility for Community Development and Charities and the Department of Transport with special responsibility for Rural Transport is a Fine Gael TD for the Cork South-Central constituency.
