Important Dates for January/February 2025

This list is intended as a resource to stay up to date with the latest deadlines regarding schemes and regulations in Irish agriculture. The information is correct at the time of publication but should only be used as a guide. Regulations for the End of Series Scheme for Agricultural and Forestry Tractors will come into effect from January 1st, 2025

Local authority veterinary service to transfer to DAFM on January 1st, 2025. The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) has said that the planned transfer of Local Authority Veterinary Services to the department is due to proceed on January 1st, 2025.

The newly launched regulations regarding the ‘4-day slurry rule’ will commence on January 1st, 2025, meaning that the Department of Agriculture must be notified of any exported organic nutrients within 4 days of the movement.

The Organic Farming Scheme will continue in 2025 with contracts commencing from January 1st, 2025, for returning applicants. Potential new entrants, however, can join the Irish Organic Association and convert their farm to organic at any time

The National Veterinary Prescription System regulations will come into effect on January 13th, 2025.

Nutrient spreading dates to make note of:

Zone A farmers can spread organic fertiliser (slurry) and farmyard manure (FYM) from January 13th, 2025. They must refrain from spreading chemical fertiliser until January 27th, 2025.

Zone B farmers can spread organic fertiliser (slurry) and farmyard manure (FYM) from January 16th, 2025. The must refrain from spreading chemical fertiliser until January 30th, 2025.

Zone C farmers can spread organic fertiliser (slurry) and farmyard manure (FYM) from February 1st, 2025. They must refrain from spreading chemical fertiliser until February 15th, 2025.

The 2025 Scheme of Investment Aid for Innovation and Diversification in Horticulture is now open for applications. This scheme is open to micro, small and medium sized enterprises (SMEs) active in primary horticulture production. The deadline for submitting an application is midnight on February 2nd, 2025.

The Sustainable Forest Harvesting Machinery Grant has just been announced and the closing date to apply is 5pm on February 4th, 2025.

Registering a Farm Partnership: the application period remains open throughout January with a closing date of February 10th, 2025.

The national hedge cutting season remains open throughout January and February with the last date of the season on February 28th, 2025. The season runs from September 1st until the end of February each year.

Deadline approaches for meeting hedgerow and tree planting requirements of ACRES (Agri-Climate Rural Environment Scheme). January and February months provide a chance for applicants to meet planting requirements as the deadline has been extended to March 31st, 2025.
