CAP Network Ireland in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) are currently developing a range of information leaflets on the Targeted Agriculture Modernisation Scheme (TAMS III) and are due to be unveiled at the National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska, Co Laois. The leaflets will be available in the DAFM tent from September 17th to 19th 2024 and will continue to be available on the CAP Network Ireland and DAFM websites afterwards.

There will be six leaflets in total which will cover the following themes:

• Water Quality
• Tillage
• Farm Safety
• Animal Housing
• Grassland Management
• Dairy Calf to Beef

The leaflets will provide guidance to farmers on the range of equipment and infrastructure available for investment supports across the 10 TAMS III schemes both in the farmyard and in the field.

The 10 schemes available under TAMS III are:

• Solar Capital Investment Scheme
• Animal Welfare and Nutrient Storage Scheme
• Dairy Equipment Scheme
• Farm Safety Capital Investment Scheme
• Low Emission Slurry Spreading Scheme’
• Organic Capital and Investment Scheme
• Pig and Poultry Investment Scheme
• Tillage Capital Investment Scheme
• Women Farmer Capital Investment Scheme
• Young Farmer Capital Investment Scheme

These leaflets will help farmers navigate the various TAMS III schemes and to help them understand that they may be able to tackle an issue on their farm through accessing more than one scheme. For example a farmer with a water quality issue on their farm may be able to fix this issue through accessing investment supports on equipment and infrastructure under both the Animal Welfare and Nutrient Storage Scheme and the Low Emission Slurry Spreading Scheme.

Farmers will also be made aware that in general they are entitled to 40% investment supports of overall capital costs up to a ceiling of €90,000, or if they are in a partnership, a ceiling of €160,000. Young Farmers, Women Farmers and Organic Farmers are entitled to 60% of capital investment costs. A general farmer who is in a Formal Farm Partnership with a young and/or woman farmer can also strategically use the partnership to access the higher percentage of investment supports available. The construction of storage facilities for the importation of slurry onto the farm will be eligible for a very generous 70% investment support for capital costs.

If you are coming to the National Ploughing Championships this year, pay a visit to the DAFM tent and pick up a leaflet to learn how you can utilise TAMS III to its full potential to fund modernisation efforts on your farm.
