ARIA 2024 Finalists Announced

Oct 22, 2024 | EIP-AGRI, Innovation, LEADER

Two Irish projects have been nominated as finalists in the EU CAP Network’s Agricultural and Rural Inspiration Awards (ARIA) 2024. These awards search for the greenest, smartest, most socially inclusive, innovative and resilient Common Agriculture Policy (CAP) projects implemented at a local level. This year, the competition also places the spotlight on projects that empower young people and women in rural areas.

  • Nominated in the Environmental Protection category, the Farm Carbon EIP project is committed to finding sustainable solutions to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from agricultural peat pastures, one of Ireland’s most significant sources of greenhouse gases. The project works with 23 farmers in three counties.
  • Nominated in the Socio-Economic Fabric of Rural Areas category, the Galway Wool Co-op works to restore the value of a natural Irish fibre and to ensure that local farmers are paid a fair price for their product.

Congratulations to both of these Irish projects, which have been singled out as examples of good practice in their fields. They will be present at the ARIA Awards Ceremony in Brussels on 4 December.

From over 100 entries, 24 inspiring projects have been shortlisted in total and are each competing for an award in their thematic category, the Gender Equality Award and the Popular Vote Award respectively.

The Popular Vote is now open and you can vote for your favourite project until Sunday, 1 December at 5pm. By voting and helping spread the word about the shortlisted projects, you are supporting inspiring projects in EU rural areas and giving them the recognition and visibility that they deserve.

Keep a close eye on the CAP Network Ireland website and social media channels in the coming weeks for more insight from, and information on, these Irish projects.
