A 2024 policy research call has been announced by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. Minister of State Martin Heydon, has announced grants of over €800,000 for six short-term research endeavours aimed at addressing the evolving policy and strategic requirements within the agri-food, forest, and bioeconomy domains.
Initiated in 2022, the Policy and Strategic Studies Research Call (PSSRC) was devised to bolster evidence-based research crucial for shaping public policy.
Minister Heydon expressed, “The €800,000 allocation from my Department for these six research initiatives will significantly contribute to shaping public policy across various sectors. The chosen topics encompass critical issues such as greenhouse gas emissions, water quality, gender and generational dynamics in agriculture, animal health, antimicrobial resistance, sustainable food systems, and food safety.”
Furthermore, Minister Heydon unveiled the commencement of the 2024 Policy and Strategic Studies Research Call. He remarked, “The 2024 call for proposals within the Policy and Strategic Studies research framework is now live. A comprehensive selection of 28 topics awaits researchers, spanning areas like animal health and welfare, food safety and biosecurity, forest management and health, soil health, climate mitigation, and food waste, among others. I urge our esteemed research community to seize this opportunity to conduct studies that can directly shape public policy for the betterment of the agri-food, forest, and bioeconomy sectors.”
