Training to Implement The Suckler Carbon Efficiency Programme (SCEP)

Pillar 2

General Overview:

Training to implement the Suckler Carbon Efficiency Programme (SCEP) seeks to offer assistance to beef farmers in enhancing the environmental sustainability of the national beef herd. This programme aims to leverage the progress achieved in recent years through initiatives such as the Beef Data and Genomics Programme (BDGP) and the Beef Environmental Efficiency Programme (BEEP) by focusing on elevating the genetic merit of the Irish suckler herd.

Training for SCEP is a mandatory element for all farmers taking part in the programme and will be rolled out by the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine. Participants must attend two training sessions before the 15th of November 2024. These courses may take place on the same day or on different days.

The training will:

  • Outline how the actions undertaken as part of Suckler Carbon Efficiency Programme (SCEP) will address the challenges that the programme is designed to address; and
  • Educate farmers on how to appropriately implement the actions; thereby equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to optimise delivery and continue the ongoing management of the commitments undertaken; as well as to facilitate the implementation of high welfare practices.
