The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine has announced the commencement of payments to farmers across a wide range of schemes in early December. Farmers are warned that some of these payments could take up to 5 working days to reach their accounts.
The commencement of the Basic Income Support for Sustainability (BISS) and Complementary Redistributive Income Support for Sustainability (CRISS) balancing payments were announced on the 2nd of December 2024. These payments amount to €270 million and were issued to 116,449 farmers, with 98% of eligible applicants now in receipt of a payment under this scheme. Payments under the 2024 CISYF also commenced on the same date. Under this scheme, a total of €31 million will be paid out to 5,584 young farmers,
The Beef Welfare Scheme 2024, designed to further increase the economic efficiency of and enhance animal health and husbandry on suckler farms, has seen 23,132 farmers participate. Payments began on the 3rd of December 2024 with participating farmers expected to receive over €19 million in payments over the following week.
The Areas of Natural Constraint (ANC) scheme is considered an important support for farm families in many regions of the country. Payments totalling €241 million to 96,731 farmers under the ANC scheme were announced on the 4th of December 2024. To date, 99% of eligible applicants have received their payment under the scheme.
Payments for the second year of the Suckler Carbon Efficiency Programme (SCEP) were announced to commence on the 5th of December. In total, over €47.8 million will be issued to 14,943 participating farmers.
Payments to Protein Aid Scheme participant farmers were announced to commence on the 6th of December 2024. This scheme was introduced to provide support to tillage farmers in establishing Nitrogen-fixing crops, to reduce the dependency on imported protein for use in animal feed. Payments totalling €9 million will be visible in farmers’ bank accounts over the coming days.
