The Department for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, announced on the 12th of December 2023 that the balance of Eco-Scheme payments for 2023 have begun. This balancing of payments will see 113,724 farmers receive €81 million which is 30% of the overall fund. This is in addition to the €204 million paid out since 31 October 2023. The total amount of funds issued under the Eco-Scheme for 2023 amounts to €285 million. It has been warned that these payments could take up to 5 days before they appear in farmers bank accounts.

Minister McConalogue has recognised the importance of the Eco-scheme payments for farmers:

The aim of Ireland’s Eco-Scheme is to reward farmers for undertaking actions beneficial to the climate, environment, water quality and biodiversity. The payment rate is €67 per eligible hectare and I fully recognise that Eco-Scheme payments are a vital support for farmers.

The Minister went on to stress that all remaining cases where farmers have yet to receive payment will do so when they meet the criteria of the scheme. Any farmers with outstanding requests for documentation from the Department are urged to return these documents as soon as possible to allow payments to be issued.
