Holistic digital technology platform enabling farmers to setup and engage in short food supply chains for increased profitability
The agroBRIDGES project addresses the critical need to improve the position of farmers within the farm-to-fork value chain by fostering direct connections between producers and consumers through Short Food Supply Chains (SFSCs). In the EU, only a small percentage of consumers regularly purchase from these short chains, facing barriers like limited access, convenience, and cost. Many farmers also lack the specific business skills required to successfully navigate logistics and connect with consumers directly.
This European project, which included Ireland as a key partner, has developed a free onlineToolbox with 12 practical resources to empower farmers and other agri-food actors. The innovation lies in its holistic and collaborative approach, with tools co-created by stakeholders across 12 countries. These resources include a “Decision Support Tool” to help farmers identify suitable business models and a “Smart Delivery” tool to create local delivery systems, matching producer offerings with consumer demand.
By using these tools, farmers can increase direct sales, achieve a higher share of the final selling price, strengthen their market position, and improve their overall sustainability with reduced CO2 emissions. Not only this but the agroBRIDGES toolbox empowers farmers to establish new business channels and marketing models based on SFSCs, which can increase their overall profitability.
For Ireland, where the tools have already been positively received and validated, agroBRIDGES offers a significant opportunity to expand local food networks. The project also aligns with Ireland’s National Strategy for Horticulture by promoting grower strength and innovation.
You can explore new business models, enhance your marketing, and connect directly with consumers by registering for free to access the agroBRIDGES toolbox at agrobridges-toolbox.eu.
