The Fodder Transport Support Measure was introduced in the spring of 2024 due to adverse weather conditions that left many farms with a fodder shortage. This measure provided assistance to farms with livestock that required forage to be purchased and transported over 75 km and utilised on the holding from 1st April 2024.
Applications to the scheme ended on the 15th of May and payments worth €2.1 million under the scheme are now in the process of being issued. These payments will first be issued to Co-Operatives over the next few days. The payments will then be passed onto the 669 farmers who applied and were accepted into the scheme in the spring.
The scheme facilitated the transportation of 48,132 bales and 19,114 tonnes of fodder to areas of the country in most need. In total, 24 Co-Operatives participated in the scheme to assist their local farmers. Payments totalling €2.1m will be issued to 669 farmers through their co-ops in the coming days.
Farmers who have not yet completed a fodder budget for the coming winter are encouraged to do so to ensure that they have access to an adequate supply of fodder for their livestock. Farmers who identify a shortage should contact their advisor to put in place a plan to avoid stress and animal welfare issues.
Payments will be again be issued to the Co-Operatives along with a detailed breakdown of the eligible farmers for payment following the completion of the relevant verification checks and inspections.
