Major Farming and Renewable Energy Industry Summit in April

Mar 12, 2024 | Farm Viability, Innovation

The Farming Renewable Energy Industry Summit 2024 will take place at the Midlands Park Hotel on Wednesday April 17th 2024.

The aim of this summit is to bring together the Irish energy and agricultural sectors to explore the areas where collaboration and partnerships can have a mutually beneficial relationship in achieving both industries environmental, social, governance (ESG) and sustainability objectives. By sharing insights, leveraging technology and developing joint initiatives, the sectors’ aim to create a synergy that not only meets ESG criteria but sets a new standard for environmentally conscious and socially responsible business practices, benefitting both sectors and the broader community.

As it stands, Ireland’s adoption of renewable technologies at farm level is well below the European average. Ireland recently ranked 23rd out of the EU-27 countries for renewable energy from agriculture, producing just 2.6% compared with the EU-27 average of 12.1%. There is enormous potential for Irish agriculture and the energy industries to develop key relationships for the benefit of all stakeholders, especially in the areas of solar and anaerobic digestion.

Effective communication and collaboration between both sectors is essential to addressing community and landowners concerns. A transparent dialogue that considers the unique needs and priorities of the community and landowners can lead to mutually beneficial solutions that balance renewable energy goals with the preservation of agricultural practices and community values.
