On November 11th, CAP Network Ireland, in collaboration with the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM), hosted a capacity building workshop for EIP Agri Operational Group (OG) projects. This event brought the OGs together along with representatives from DAFM, CAP Network Ireland, Teagasc, the National Parks and Wildlife Service and the EU CAP Network.
This short summary report presents the key messages from the workshop which began with a welcome from CAP Network Ireland delivered by James Claffey. This was followed by the opening address delivered by Brian McGee, Principal Officer at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM). Brian congratulated the OGs on their success in initiating their projects and highlighted how the department were looking forward to working with the OGs over the coming years as they develop their innovations.
The opening address was followed by a presentation from Céline Karasinski of the EU CAP Network, Support Facility for Innovation and Knowledge Exchange. Céline opened with a high-level overview of the EIP-Agri programme, its history, outlining how EIP-AGRI bridges the gap between practice and research. Following this introduction, Céline gave the OGs a brief introduction to the EU supports available and presenting the opportunities for Irish OGs to join European thematic groups.
Ray Ó Foghlú, Development Lead at Hometree, brought the focus back home as he reflected on the lessons learned from the successful Illaun Farm Forest EIP funded under the 2014-2020 RDP call. Ray encouraged the OGs to include the community, avoid surprises and embrace the tools of photography, video, and audio to tell their project’s story.
Following Ray, Avion Philllips of Teagasc introduced the Horizon Europe project EU-FARMBOOK. This free, open-access platform designed for rural communities is available to the OGs to host and share the tools, guides, videos, and research-based insights they generate, ensuring they can be put into practice.
Anne Maguire of the EIP Section at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine presented on Data collection and management requirements for EIPs. Anne presented the core principles of data management, reporting requirements, and gave a brief introduction to the new DAFM IT system for sharing spatial data for EIPs. Following the presentations James Claffey facilitated a Q&A session with the panellists before a well-earned lunch.
The real work began in the afternoon, when representatives from the OGs attended one of the three parallel workshops; project management, project communications and project financial reporting. The workshops presented a detailed overview of the different project operational requirements giving those present the opportunity to direct questions at DAFM and their peers in project management, communications and finance.
