The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Minister Charlie McConalogue T.D, has confirmed the commencement of approvals for farmers participating in Tranche 2 of the Agri-Climate Rural Environment Scheme (ACRES).

Expressing his satisfaction, the Minister stated, ‘After confirming last month the acceptance of all valid applications for Tranche 2 of ACRES, I’m pleased to announce the commencement of approval letters to over 2,300 ACRES Co-operation applicants. Prompt notification through AgFood accounts will precede formal letters. Approvals for ACRES General applicants will follow shortly.

Minister McConalogue highlighted, ‘Approvals for Tranche 2 will increase the Scheme’s participants to 55,000, exceeding the original expectation by 10%. This reflects strong farmer interest in agri-environmental and climate measures, translating to approximately 100,000 additional hectares engaged in environmental action.’

Regarding ACRES Co-operation approvals, the Minister outlined the subsequent assignment of scorecards by ACRES Co-operation Project Teams for advisors to assess lands during the summer.

In conclusion, the Minister acknowledged the essential roles of Co-operation Project Teams and agricultural advisors in ACRES implementation and anticipated their continued contribution to its success.
