Approval letters for Agri-Climate Rural Environment Scheme (ACRES) Tranche 2 general applicants have begun to be issued according to the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM). Successful applicants will shortly find approval letters AgFood account, with a text alert issuing to those signed up to receive them. Formal letters by post will follow shortly. Formal letters have also started to be issued by post to participants recently approved entry into the ACRES Co-operation Project.
Referring to the approval letters, Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Charlie McConalogue TD said, “this is an important document that sets out, by parcel, the actions for which participants have received approval. In addition, all participants will receive a Farmland Plant Identification Key. This full-colour booklet will assist farmers in identifying positive and negative grass and peatland indicators, and in assessing the condition of these lands. I have no doubt participants will find this publication useful.”
Participants that have commonage, or have selected the Low-input Grassland or Low-input Peat Grassland actions, will have their lands scored by a CP Team, or their own advisor, respectively, over the coming months.
The Agri-Climate Rural Environment Scheme (ACRES) is the agri-environment climate measure under Ireland’s CAP Strategic Plan for the period 2023 – 2027.
There are two approaches within the Scheme:
• ACRES General, available nationally (outside of the high priority geographical area as defined for the ACRES Co-operation approach below), which offers a range of measures (both prescription and result-based); and
• ACRES Co-operation, available to farmers in defined high priority geographical areas.
ACRES Tranche 2 again proved to be very popular with landowners. Initially 4,000 places were made available to applicants. Tranche 2 eventually became oversubscribed with approximately 9,000 applicants being submitted before the closing date. In March 2024, DAFM announced all 9,000 applicants would be accommodated in the scheme.
