The EU organic awards are jointly organised by the European Commission, the European Economic and Social Committee, the European Committee of the RegionCOPA-COGECA  and IFOAM Organics Europe.

The March 2021 Action Plan for Organic Production emphasises the necessity to stimulate consumer demand for organic production growth. Central to this objective is enhancing public understanding of organic production’s attributes and advantages. It aims to award excellence along the organic food chain in the EU.

To achieve this, the Action Plan proposes the introduction of yearly awards celebrating outstanding contributions within the organic industry. In Ireland, organic farming Submissions are welcome until May 12th, 2024. Winners will be announced for the third time on September 23, 2024, coinciding with EU Organic Day.

The EU Organic Awards consist of 8 awards spanning across 7 distinct categories. The 7 categories include Best organic farmer (male) and Best organic farmer (female), Best organic region, Best organic city,  Best organic bio-district, Best organic food processing SME, Best organic food retailer, and Best organic restaurant/food service.

These awards acknowledge various stakeholders across the organic value chain who have led exceptional, innovative, sustainable, and motivational initiatives, enriching organic production and consumption.
