ACRES Tranche 2 Launch Date Confirmed

Nov 30, 2023 | Green Architecture

The Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine (DAFM) has officially announced that Tranche 2 of the Agri-Climate Rural Environment Scheme (ACRES) is now open for applications and this period remains open until 5.30 pm on Wednesday, 13th of December 2023, for both ACRES General and ACRES Co-operation.

Increased Funding for ACRES

In the wake of the budget for 2024, Minister for Agriculture Charlie McConalogue shared positive news, stating, “I have increased the allocation for ACRES by €40 million, bringing the total scheme allocation to €200 million.” This noteworthy increase, up from the 2023 budget of €160 million, underscores the government’s commitment to involving 50,000 farmers in ACRES—a flagship environmental program within Ireland’s 2023-2027 CAP Plan.

Opening Tranche 2 to an additional 4,000 farmers, Minister McConalogue said “The Government has committed €1.5 billion to ACRES over the duration of the scheme to facilitate the participation of 50,000 farmers. The funding I secured in last month’s Budget facilitates the opening of Tranche 2 of ACRES to bring the numbers in the Scheme up to that level, which is also in line with Ireland’s CAP Strategic Plan 2023-2027.”

Application Details and Criteria

Farmers interested in joining Tranche 2 can now check their eligibility and explore the specific ACRES scheme that suits them on AgFood.ie. ACRES offers two approaches: ACRES General and ACRES Co-operation, each with distinct qualification criteria. In the case of a high volume of applications, a ranking and selection process will prioritise applications based on the environmental benefits they promise.

Progress for Tranche 1 Participants

For farmers currently participating in Tranche 1 of ACRES, the Department is processing advance payments, with disbursements scheduled to begin by the end of November. This step ensures that participants in the first tranche receive timely financial support.

Minister McConalogue extended his gratitude to all participating farmers in ACRES and acknowledged the dedicated efforts of ACRES advisors in on-site scoring over the past months. Their contributions have played a crucial role in the success of the program to date.
