DESCRIPTION:On the 7th October from 11am to 2pm\, the Grass Ceiling Horizon Europe (2022- 2025) project will organise its online inception European policy forum for women-led innovation in agriculture and rural areas. \nThe GRASS CEILING project aims to support the development of a context where women can drive socio-ecological transitions\, that is\, develop innovations in response to socio-ecological challenges and strengthen the resilience of rural areas. \nThe online Forum plays a key role in pushing for change and increase women-led socio- ecological innovations in farming\, the rural economy and in rural communities. It is coordinated by AEIDL (European Association for innovation in Local development) and Copa – Cogeca. \nIf you are interested to join the launch event of the Policy Forum\, please register by the 1st October. \nAgenda Outline \n\nIntroduce the GRASS CEILING project to key external actors;\nPresent the project methodological basis for the development of the policy recommendations and tools;\nRaise awareness of the European Policy Forum for women-led innovation in agriculture and rural areas\, its planned activities and possibilities to be engaged;\nEnhance the exchange\, learn and interact with key stakeholders;\nEstablish contact points with key stakeholders facilitating their engagement.

SUMMARY:1st meeting of the Thematic Group on Enhancing Biodiversity on Farmland for Improved Resilience
DESCRIPTION:Food production and farming practices can have both positive and negative impacts on biodiversity. The interactions between farming and biodiversity therefore play a critical role for the resilience of food production and sustainable resource management. This can be the case through supporting the pollination of crops and the control of pests and diseases\, contributing to productive soils\, nutrient and carbon cycles\, water quality as well as improving the resilience of farming systems to climate change through helping mitigate the effects of droughts and floods. However\, biodiversity continues to decline\, particularly on farmland. \nIn this first meeting we will look at Member States’ experiences in designing and implementing interventions at the necessary scale for improving biodiversity outcomes on farmland (improving species’ populations\, habitat restoration\, habitat connectivity). We will explore what factors have contributed to successful outcomes as well as challenges that need to be overcome. \nAims of the first TG meeting: \n\nShare good practice examples of initiatives for delivering biodiversity outcomes on farmland at the necessary scale (e.g. involving multiple farms; using collective approaches).\nExplore the success factors as well as the issues and challenges facing the design and implementation of interventions for improving biodiversity outcomes on farmland.\nIdentify the main areas of interest for further in-depth discussion.
