The 2024 National Organic Awards will take place on Thursday\, October 17th\, 2024 in the Bord Bia Global Hub in Dublin. This event aims to recognise developments within the organic sector across seven key categories\, judged by a panel of experts. \nThe winners will be announced at an award ceremony that celebrates the best of organic food from Ireland. Judging will take place at the National Organic Food Fair in Merrion Square on the 31st August 2024. \nThis year we’re excited to announce there is a new special award focused on recognising an individual who is leading by example for the Irish organic sector and will be crowned The Irish Organic Sector Champion 2024. SUMMARY:Agroforestry Walk (Woodland Grazing) Killarney
DESCRIPTION:Explore this meticulously managed forestry\, with 10ha of Oak/Scots Pine and 10ha of Ash/Alder\, planted with the support of forestry grants 22 years ago. The Ash tree have been affected by Ash die back. Recently the O’Connor’s were approved to replace the Ash under the RUS scheme. \nThe Ash have now been replaced with Oak\, Birch\, and some Rowan\, Wild Cherry\, Hazel\, Scots Pine and Hawthorn. Liam will share the inspiring story of why the family planted the forestry and their long-term plans for sustainable farm management of this beautiful Kerry farm. \nHear about their Continuous Cover Forestry (CCF) methods and see how they are now utilising this established woodland for grazing their Hereford and Angus cattle. As the Managing Director of Kerry Die Products\, Liam will also tell us about their expertise in manufacture of Biomass wood pelleting machines and how he integrates farming and agroforestry with an innovative biomass technology business.
