SUMMARY:Thematic Group on Gen Z: Leading Generational Renewal in Farming
DESCRIPTION:This is the 1st meeting of the Thematic Group on Gen Z: Leading Generational Renewal in Farming. The event will enable you to assess the necessary changes in both policy and practice to foster greater engagement of young people in agriculture. \nIn the evolving landscape of agriculture\, young people are crucial in shaping the future of farming and rural areas. Future farmers and rural areas must be deeply integrated\, with agricultural activities embedded in local economic and social environments. Generational renewal goes beyond merely reducing the average age of farmers in the EU. It involves understanding the needs and aspirations of young people living in rural areas\, who could drive the future of farming and vice versa. It is important to empower the new generation of young farmers to harness the full benefits of technology and innovation for sustainable farming practices in Europe. \nBuilding on existing groundwork\, the TG aims to explore the key characteristics of future farmers from the perspective of young people. This TG will have Generation Z as its main target group\, as they are the ones looking towards their future.

SUMMARY:Climate Adaptation Conference
DESCRIPTION:What are the adaptations to be made to address the climate challenges in grassland? \nIrish grassland systems are experiencing some clear climatic challenges. The incidence of high level precipitation events\, soil moisture deficits and prolonged winter conditions are becoming increasingly frequent resulting in challenging conditions for Irish farmers. \nThe objective of this conference is to identify the significant risks and opportunities for Irish grassland systems and to highlight the knowledge gaps that may exist which require an additional research focus. The conference will look at key areas such as: \n\ngrass/clover breeding\ngrassland modelling\nweather and grass production trends\nlatest research findings\n\nThe conference is very much focussed to addressing the key climate adaptations that Irish grassland needs to address in the years ahead.
